Folding / Bi-fold Doors

Folding or bi-fold doors are superior at bringing the outdoors in and creating a sense of open plan living.  When closed, they behave as a wall of glass which allows far more light into a room than a standard window or door.  Upon opening, folding doors completely fold away, removing all barriers, extending your living space, and providing easy access to your garden or patio.

Our European folding doors are built on a sturdy multi-chamber frame, with double or triple-pane glass.  Multiple air and water-tight seals, and exceptional thermal insulation make our folding doors a true 4-season patio door.

Folding doors are also a wonderful solution for open-plan interior spaces.  They can be used to completely separate two individual rooms, offering better insulation and soundproofing when closed; and then can be folded completely open when a larger space is needed.  Installing a full expanse of glass doors in a room allows you to incorporate more natural light into the rooms.  Not just for residential properties, internal folding doors are ideal for commercial properties in need of flexible office, meeting or event spaces.

FOLDING DOOR OPERATION

Folding doors consist of a single or double glass door (side-hung or tilt-and-turn) with up to six connected panels which effortlessly open accordion-style; opening completely to fold away flat to one side.

Our folding doors offer a lot of flexibility in terms of configuration. You can choose the number of leaves, the size of each leaf, the direction of opening, and the inclusion of a single or double traffic door. Essentially, a traffic door is a conventional door built into the folding door system, which sits on a normal hinge and has a standard lever handle. This allows for quick and easy access through the entrance-way and is particularly useful for high-traffic locations.

FOLDING DOORS V.S. TRADITIONAL SLIDING & FRENCH DOORS

Folding doors have enjoyed a surge in popularity, with many homeowners opting for folding doors over sliding or French doors, making them a brilliant alternative. As the technology has developed over the years, bi-folding doors have become safer, more energy-efficient, less expensive and more beautiful than ever before.

Typical sliding doors are made up of two leaves; one moving leaf which slides behind a stationary leaf, resulting in half of the opening being permanently blocked. Hinged or French doors require a lot of space to swing open, making them less practical in confined spaces. Essentially, folding doors are a hybrid of sliding doors and French/patio doors, and they offer the best of both worlds in terms of space-saving ability. Because folding doors slide and fold at the same time, it is possible to open up 90% of the entire passage. Although a small amount of space is taken up by the folded leaves when open, it is far less than with traditional hinged or French doors.
